Using Windows Media Encoder with Webcasting.com

You can use Windows Media Encoder to stream and to record your video. Here's how:

1. Make sure your camera and audio source are plugged in before opening Windows Media Encoder. When you open the software up, you'll get the New Session window. Select Custom Session and then OK.

2. The Session Properties window comes up. Select your camera and audio source and configure them if you need.

3. Click on the Output tab. If you are webcasting live, you will choose either Push or Pull method (what's the difference?). If you are doing a Push, enter the server name and publishing point that Webcasting.com emailed you when your account was setup. You can also find this information in the My Channels area of Webcasting.com's Customer Portal.

If you are using the Pull method, check the Pull box and enter in your port number. If you have a firewall, you may need to setup a Port Forward. You must use the same port number that Webcasting.com has set in your My Channels area of Customer Portal. You can request to change your port by opening a ticket. Please keep in mind that changing your port may take 12-24 hours to take effect on all of our servers.

You can also check Archive to File to record your video locally on your computer. Later, you can FTP your video to Webcasting.com for on-demand viewing.

Click Apply.

4. If you're using the Push method, you will be asked for your username and password. Webcasting.com emailed this information to you when your account was setup. You can also find it in the My Channels area of the Customer Portal.

If you're using the Pull method, you will not be asked for a username and password. You may get a message that says "It is not possible to detect....". Just click OK on that.

5. Under the Compression tab, you can choose your video quality. You'll probably want to have the highest quality that your audiences' Internet access can support. The default is 282 kbps. Click apply.

6. When you are satisfied with your settings, click Start Encoding. This will broadcast your video to Webcasting.com and begin recording it.

7. To watch the video, use the Watch URL address sent to you when your account was setup. This can also be found in the My Channels area of Customer Portal. It will look something like this: http://www.webcasting.com/links/your_publishing_point.asx. You can email this link around and post it on your website for your audience members.

That's it! You're now webcasting!
